WHAT IS PILATES?
The Pilates Method was developed over 80 years ago by German immigrants Joseph and Clara Pilates. Pilates developed an exercise regimen that captured the best of eastern and western exercise disciplines. He incorporated the concentration, breath and control elements of eastern forms of movement, with the strength and pacing of western forms of physical activity.
This system is excellent for improving recreational or elite sports performance; for rehabilitating and preventing injuries; for improving overall quality of life, and for slowing down the aging process.
This exercise method strengthens the deepest muscles of the abdomen, back, and pelvis. Pilates focuses on many muscle groups at the same time. Springs – instead of weights – offer variable-loaded resistance to lend support, resistance, and precision for the body in motion.
